TWIN STONE HOLIDAY HOUSES IN THE SETTLEMENT OF AGIA VARVARA, PLOMARI - LESVOS

The study concerns the construction of 2 identical stone two-storey seaside houses in the settlement of Agia Varvara, 4 km outside Plomari. The plot is only 3 m. away from the sea, and offers an unobstructed view. The two holiday houses are placed along the plot with a small distance between them. The surrounding area is adequate to the sea but also to the opposite side of the plot. Each house has a total area of 118 m2 and is divided into two floors. The open space of the ground floor is close to the external courtyard. On the ground floor there is a kitchen and a living room that are separated by a staircase which leads to the first floor. Under the stairs, a storage space is created for the kitchen and the living room. The bedrooms are on the first floor. The south bedroom overlooks the sea and communicates with a balcony of 13.5 m2. The houses are designed to have a load-bearing body made of reinforced concrete. Externally they are traditionally lined with slate stones. The roof is a traditional wooden tiled roof. The openings are limited following the traditional north-Aegean architecture, a design that helps bioclimatic energy savings. The southern balcony doors are framed with metal awnings to protect the interior from the intense summer sun.
